Highlights

The Materuni Waterfalls & Coffee Tour takes you from Moshi to a Chagga village on Kilimanjaro’s slopes in about 30 to 45 minutes. Walk through banana and coffee farms to a waterfall of roughly 70 to 80 metres, then roast and taste fresh Kilimanjaro coffee with a local family.
No climbing and no special gear needed. It suits a free day before your climb, a rest day after summiting, or an easy alternative to a safari.
Book your Materuni Waterfalls & Coffee Tour today. Half day, private or small group, with hotel pick-up from Moshi.

Detailed Itinerary

Pick-up (around 8:00 AM) Your guide and driver collect you from your hotel in Moshi (or Arusha by arrangement).
Drive to Materuni (about 30 to 45 minutes) The road climbs through suburbs, then farmland, with views opening up behind you. Your guide gives a short briefing on the area and the Chagga people.

Village and farm walk (about 45 to 60 minutes) Park at the village and set off on foot. The trail passes homesteads, banana groves, coffee plants, avocado and fruit trees, and sections of shaded forest. Your guide explains the crops, the traditional irrigation channels, and daily life on the mountain.
Materuni Waterfalls (about 1 hour at the falls) The trail descends to the base of the falls. Take photos, walk to the pool, or swim if you wish. Expect spray and slippery rocks near the water. Take your time here before the climb back up.

Return walk (about 45 to 60 minutes) A gradual uphill return to the village, with time to rest and enjoy the scenery from a different angle.
Chagga coffee experience (about 1 to 1.5 hours) At a local family home you take part in the full process:
• Picking or handling coffee cherries and removing the husk
• Pounding the dried beans in a traditional wooden mortar
• Roasting over an open fire
• Grinding and brewing a pot of fresh coffee
• Tasting it, usually with local sugar or honey, and often with traditional snacks

Traditional lunch (about 45 minutes) [if included] Enjoy a home-style Chagga meal, for example with bananas, vegetables, beans and local greens. Vegetarian options are available on request.

Return to Moshi Drive back and drop-off at your hotel by early afternoon (around 1:00 to 3:00 PM).

Comfortable and Interesting Experience! Ontime transfers provided a relaxing experience in the car as well as an interesting walking tour of the town of Moshi. The guide was very well informed and we were able to see many different parts of the town as well as being accommodated for my own requests. Would absolutely recommend!

Moshi Very great tour through Moshi. Got to know the most important points. With a local guide that is great because otherwise you are a bit lost there. 2-3 hours! Definitely do it if you have some time in Moshi.
